Pregnant Postpartum Intervention (PPI)

Abilene Recovery Council's PPI, also known as the "Labor of Love" program is designed to provide community-based, gender specific outreach and intervention services for pregnant and postpartum females (adult and youth) with substance use disorders or who are at risk of developing substance use disorders.

Labor of Love program services include:

  • Screenings and assessments
  • Service planning
  • OSAR and LMHA (Local Mental Health Authority) referrals when appropriate
  • HIV/STD education & rapid testing services
  • Pregnancy tests
  • Evidence-based education on parenting, child development, family violence, safety, pregnancy planning and reproductive health, and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD)
  • Alternative activities to promote family bonding
  • Case management
  • Transitional planning

  • The "Labor of Love" program has received a grant from the Community Foundation of Abilene every year since 2016 to assist the program in providing baby and mother care items for participants. We thank them for their continued support!
