Youth Universal Prevention Education Programs (YPU)
Abilene Recovery Council provides research-based, proven effective prevention curricula to schools and communities within the following counties:
- Brown
- Callahan
- Comanche
- Fisher
- Haskell
- Jones
- Mitchell
- Nolan
- Runnels
- Scurry
- Shackleford
- Stephens
- Stonewall
- Taylor
All curricula are on the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices (NREPP). Trained prevention professionals deliver a comprehensive prevention program that is 10-12 sessions and also includes positive alternatives, presentations, and community mobilization and education activities for the entire school and community. Currently, Abilene Recovery Council Prevention Specialists are facilitating “Positive Action” for grades 2 through 9. Additionally, our prevention staff is available to provide presentations pertaining to behavioral health promotion, tobacco and nicotine products, alcohol (underage drinking), marijuana, and/or prescription drug misuse issues.
